Booking a personal branding shoot is such an exciting step - whether you’re a creative entrepreneur, freelancer, or business owner, these images will tell your story, elevate your brand & showcase what makes you unique. To help you get the most out of your session, here are my top tips for preparing so you'll walk away with photos you’ll truly love.

1. Outfits: Keep It Minimal and Intentional

Plan your wardrobe ahead of time and try everything on—don’t just rely on how it looks on a hanger. Snap a few test photos in similar lighting or positioning to what you’ll use in your shoot. What looks flattering in real life can sometimes look boxy or shapeless on camera.

• Neutrals and minimal styles photograph beautifully and won’t date quickly. Stick to soft tones, clean lines, and classic cuts.

• If bold colour or prints are part of your brand personality, lean into them strategically - one vibrant blazer or patterned blouse can pop when styled with neutral basics.

• Bring at least 2 -3 outfit changes. Having a variety lets you tailor looks for different platforms or audiences without feeling repetitive.

2. Props That Tell Your Story

Props can subtly communicate your brand and personality:

• Branded items - Have your logo included in your shoot by bringing along items where it's in print.

• Tools of your trade - Laptop, camera, tablet, paintbrushes, floral clippers—whatever represents your work.

• Relevant books or magazines - Titles that inspire you or align with your values.

• Lifestyle accents - A favourite coffee mug, journal, art work or a chic handbag for lifestyle shots.

Keep props simple and purposeful - avoid clutter so the focus stays on you.

3. Grooming and Details Matter

• Hair and Makeup: Even a natural look benefits from professional styling. It gives polish and confidence.

• Hands and Nails: Your hands will feature more than you expect - clean nails or a simple neutral polish keeps things refined.

• Accessories: Minimal jewellery often works best. If your brand is playful or bold, one statement piece can be perfect.

4. Rest and Hydrate

Get a good night’s sleep beforehand and drink plenty of water. You’ll feel fresher, your skin will look better, and your energy will shine through in your photos.

5. Consider Your Brand Messaging

Think about where these images will live: website banners, Instagram posts, LinkedIn, email signatures. Consider tailoring a few different looks or moods to suit different audiences - corporate clients, creative collaborators, or lifestyle followers.

6. Communication is Key

Share your goals, colour palette, and any must-have shots with me before your session. The more I know about your brand vision, the better I can plan locations, lighting, and framing to reflect your style.

Preparing for your session isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. A little planning goes a long way toward creating a collection of images that feel timeless, professional, and uniquely you. By choosing outfits that flatter, props that tell your story, and a few small details checked ahead of time, you’ll step into your session confident and ready to shine!
